Executed between 1810 and 1820, Goya's Los Desastres de la Guerra (Disasters of War) was inspired by scenes the artist witnessed during the Peninsular War against Napoleon Bonaparte that waged from 1808 to 1814. In a time before photo-journalism, Goya created a necessary and unflinching documentation of the ravages of war and it's power to dehumanize everyone involved.
