"Using a belsaw (or rocker) tool on a copper plate, scratches are made on all over the surface and then filled with ink to create a black screen.  The screen with the scratch can be polished or scraped with tools such as a scraper or burnisher to draw a halftone picture.

This dark and deep Mezzotint black is like silk velvet. It is mysterious and enticing. This technique was popular when there were no photos. But since the invention of photography, Mezzotint was no longer in favor and gradually diminished.  Nowadays, people rediscover the hidden charm of this printing technique and fall in love with it again. The number of Mezzotint artists is increasing again".
