Kate Hunt

February 2011 Exhibition

• Related Artists: Jil Weinstock

These new pieces continue the artist’s exploration of basic materials which are first cut and compressed, then tied and coated, and finally ordered into grids or decorative sconce-like forms. The compacted, sheared newsprint can assume the form of a flag as readily as an abstract geometric form. The result is not precious but powerful, demanding attention. Hunt is a mid-career artist who trained at the Kansas City Art Institute and the Cranbrook Academy of Art. This is her fourth solo exhibition at Davidson Galleries.
