Federico Castellon (Spanish/American, 1914-1971)

Available Works

Federico Castellon began dabbling in art at an early age after his family moved from Spain to New York City in 1921. A painter first, Castellon made his first lithographs in 1937. An adept draftsperson, Castellon completely mastered the lithographic medium and was a perfectionist in terms of his technique, use of subtle colors, and imagery. Castellon always followed his own artistic visions and his surrealist, mysterious images, with their characteristic elongated figures, hover between dreams and nightmares. Castellon traveled extensively throughout his life and worked as a professional art instructor for over 25 years. His works are represented in the permanent collections of over a dozen major American museums.
