Juan Genovés is among the most widely recognized and respected contemporary Spanish artists. His work was deeply affected by his experience growing up in Valencia in the 1930s where he witnessed the barbarity and violence of the Spanish Civil War first hand. This portfolio Silencio, Silencio, published in 1970, can be viewed as a visual representation of Genovés involvement with the opposition movements protesting the Franco regime and his early experiences with the Spanish Civil War.
