Seoul Kim (formerly known as Sohee Kim) was born in 1983 in Daegu, Korea. She received her BFA from Hong-ik University in Seoul, and her MFA and PHD from Tama Art University in Tokyo. She studied printmaking and most often creates color etchings with hand-coloring. Kim is known for her humorous portrayals of people, objects, and spaces in exaggerated city life scenarios. Her work often deals with people becoming objects and vice versa. She uses laughter to critique and explore the human experience, especially compartmentalization and isolation in her 2019-2020 COVID-19 series.
