Born in Poland, she began her education in France and then emigrated to Mexico at the age of fourteen. She studied under Mexico's most prominent artists including Orozco, Rivera, Sequieros and Zalce. In 1940, she was considered the first woman muralist in Mexico at the time, as well as one of the youngest female artists to be associated with Mexican muralism. In 1948 she was Diego Rivera's assistant on the frescoes of the National Palace in Mexico.
