In this body of work Ellen Heck continues her exploration of the societal fashioning and self-fashioning of female identity during childhood and early adolescence through play and costume. Drawing on predecessors as varied as Mary Cassatt and Frida Kahlo, Heck captures moments of unselfconscious action as well as reflection and introspection using her distinctive technique that mixes color woodblock and intaglio.
