Juan Genovés, #7, Tríangulo (Triangle). Etching
‘#7, Triángulo (Triangle)’ from Genovés’s ‘Silencio, Silencio’ series triangulates the feeling of militant repression closing in on civilians. Spray paint textures in grayscale evoke a machined, pop-art aesthetic that sits uncomfortably in my gut. While I would not want this art work to be in my bedroom, I would place it with reverence next to the front door as a reminder of what complacent politics yields.

Ben Beres, Another Mindless Day. Etching
When my outlook on the world starts sinking, I often look at Ben Beres's work. I appreciate how direct and cynical he can be – and for me a dose of cynicism usually provides better relief than optimism. This piece has great handmade texture, dark lines, and simple language, giving the feeling that there's someone else trying to grapple with the situation too.

Albert de Belleroche, Le Collier. Lithograph
The beauty of Albert de Belleroche's line and expressiveness with a dash of freshness and it's sublime to me. A calm friendly gaze greets us from this wonderfully gentle portrait hand drawn on stone and then printed in the early 20th century.

Chul Soo Lee, Until Dark 하늘이고 저물도록 (detail). Woodcut
Poem: "They worked until dark. Wife and husband are calling each other to go home.Dinner will be tasty and the sleep will be deep".
In "Until Dark", we see the couple is surrounded by layers and layers and still has so much left to do. Your imagination takes you out of the scene and off the page. The task feels overwhelming. Although it is an agricultural scene, it's obscure. The pattern of rows is not uniform, as you would expect. Instead it looks like the artist has left his own fingerprint.
