Description: Mary Cassat is best known for her association with the French Impressionists and for her touching images of mothers and children. La Toilette depicts an interesting exchange between a woman and her daughter. The mother assists her daughter with a hand mirror in what will surely begin years of instruction on feminine grooming and appearance. This private moment shared between them will eventually become a method for which the daughter will form her own identity and present herself to the public world.
