Wuon-Gean Ho was born in 1973 in Oxford and raised in the UK by Malaysian and Singaporean parents. She received a BA in Art History from Cambridge University and an MA in Printmaking from the Royal College of Art. She also studied Japanese woodblock printmaking at the Kyoto Seika University in Japan. Ho has taught printmaking internationally for over 15 years and participated in residencies in the US, Canada, China, Italy, and the UK. Her work has been shown internationally and extensively in the UK. She is currently a research associate and the inaugural editor of the IMPACT Printmaking Journal for the University of the West of England. Ho is known for her expressive, colorful linocuts about intimacy, tenderness, and connection. Her work commonly features people and animals in comedic, absurd, or affectionate situations. She aims to balance complex situations with limited scale and layering of blocks.

On her recent series:

“[These prints] are about personal experiences and intended to be full of narrative humour: a little satirical, a bit tragic, sometimes absurd…There is a dream-like logic to the spaces, which have their own internal references. Sometimes I hide stories, clues, dates, times and images in the work to make a richer narrative. These may not be obvious to anyone but myself, but I like the potential treasure-hunt and slowing of the reading of the image.” —Wuon-Gean Ho
