Stephen McMillan (American, b. 1949) is a Pacific Northwest artist who focuses on Northwest and Californian scenes, powerful natural colors, and dramatic viewpoints. McMillan works most frequently in aquatint and etchings, depicting landscapes that he has personally photographed and drawn. His work aims to capture renewal and invigoration generated by being in and moving through the natural environment. He received his BFA from the University of California, Santa Cruz in 1975, studied at Hornsey College of Art in London, and taught at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States and is held by many public collections, including the Brooklyn Museum and Portland Art Museum.
