Marit Berg (American, Pacific Northwest, b. 1966) was born and raised in San Diego, California. She attained her BA in Painting and Printmaking from San Diego State University and MFA from Washington Sate University.

Her primary media are painting, relief printmaking, etching, screenprint, and contemporary digital practices. Marit’s ideas reflect on our relationships with the environment and with other animal species. She draws inspiration from contemporary views on ecology and ancient myths, which explain and interpret the natural world. She continues the tradition of vanitas painting using modern symbolism and metaphor to explore visual insights and contradictions.

Marit lives and works in Tacoma, Washington, where she is a tenured Professor at Tacoma Community College. Her work is held in the public collections of the University of Washington and the Office of Arts and Culture’s Seattle Public Utilities.
