Eva Pietzcker (German, b. 1966) was born in 1966 in Tübingen, Germany and is currently based in Berlin. She studied fine art at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Nuremberg and the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. Pietzcker is known for her moku hanga woodblocks featuring landscapes of the Pacific Northwest, Germany, and Japan. Her work often begins from sketches on location before she returns to her studio to translate the drawings into woodblocks to be hand-printed. This traditional technique produces watercolor-like prints with a painterly, natural texture that echoes the scenes depicted. Pietzcker’s work emphasizes the subtlety of the natural world and its textures, from grasses fading into sand to stones fading into mist. Using striking framing techniques, her narrow perspectives cut through complex forests, vast landscapes, and quiet homes to highlight the exact moment and place she seeks to capture. Pietzcker’s work has been exhibited internationally including in Germany, France, Japan, and the United States.
