Ben Beres (American, b. 1976) was born in Akron, Ohio in 1976 and raised in Portland, Oregon. He received a degree from Cornish College of the Arts in 2000. Beres teaches printmaking at Cornish and vitreography at Pilchuck Glass School. He also produces work as one third of the conceptual art trio SuttonBeresCuller, creators of Mini Mart City Park in Georgetown, among many other projects. Beres is known for his multifaceted artistic production, working primarily in etching, vitreography, marbling, public installation, and public engagement through performance. Often using text, pattern, and miniscule graphics, Beres references music, television, and pop culture at large to deal with experiences like trauma, intimacy, and spirituality, and engage with and against institutions like policing, the church, and the art market. At times slowly, at times boldly, Beres shares his thoughts in full force, linking together and calling attention to complexities of the human experience.

Sometimes tender, sometimes abrasive, sometimes melancholy, a sense of personal turmoil seeps into these works, perhaps putting on a brave face of color for the viewer."
