A celebrated Northwest artist, Art Hansen (American, 1929-2017) drew his artistic inspiration from the ponds, forests, and farmland of rural Vashon Island in Puget Sound, Washington, his home for over fifty years. Working in a variety of media including pen and ink, oils, watercolor, etchings, and lithography, Hansen's artistic sensibilities fuse a variety of influences from America, Europe, and Japan.

In 1952, Art Hansen launched his career with a solo exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum the year he graduated from the University of Washington. The following year, he received a Fulbright Scholarship to study at the Munich Academy of the Arts, where he developed his own etching technique. He earned his MFA from the University of Minnesota in 1957. Hansen’s work has exhibited in galleries around the United States and is included in many collections including Boeing, Microsoft, New York Public Library, Seattle Art Museum, and the Library of Congress.
