Akiko Taniguchi (Japanese, b. 1967) was born in Tokyo, Japan and is now based in Edmonton, Canada. She received her MFA from Musashino Art University. Taniguchi has exhibited internationally including in Japan, Russia, Canada, and the US. She is known for her prints that combine collagraph, etching, mezzotint, and chine-collé techniques. Her work abstracts and emphasizes nature’s rhythms, patterns, and structures to explore the cycles of nature and life. She is interested in the oppositions within and towards the environment, using symbols like cages, rain, and seeds to reinterpret natural phenomena. Taniguchi’s work is held in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, University of Alberta, Silpakorn University in Bangkok, and others.
