Contemporary Mezzotints

Showing June 3rd - July 1st, 2011

The June exhibition at Davidson Galleries will present the work of 28 artists, many of whom concentrate on mezzotint as their preferred means of expression. The show will introduce five artists new to the gallery collection: Seiichi Hiroshima, Judith Rothchild, Takahiro Sato, Timothy Smith, and Kouki Tsuritani. This selection will show the changing attitude toward the medium and its more selective use in combination with other processes. Key founders of the modern movement, Mario Avati and Yozo Hamaguchi, will be paired with contemporary artists such as Carol Wax who wrote The Mezzotint, History and Technique, published by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. 1990.
