WORDS IN SERVICE: Manuscript Leaves, Miniatures & Early Printing
Gallery Exhibition: July 8–30
The Antique department will mount an exhibition of original manuscript leaves and incunabula from a wide range of time periods with a focus on devotional texts from many different cultures. Works on view will include, among others: 14th century French missals, 16th century miniature paintings from French Books of Hours, a 17th century edition of the Persian epic Shahnama, a broad selection of Qur'an passages, 18th century antiphonals, and 19th century Tibetan and Burmese prayer book pages.
