PABLO PICASSO (Spanish, 1881-1973)
Picasso as Printmaker
Archived Exhibition page - October 8-30, 2010
Davidson Galleries, in a joint venture with Greg Kucera Gallery, is pleased to announce two complementary exhibitions of prints by Pablo Picasso. In support of Picasso: Masterpieces from the Musee National Picasso, Paris, showing at the Seattle Art Museum October 8 through January, 17, Davidson Galleries is showing a variety of original etchings and lithographs highlighting Picasso's mastery of the print medium.
These prints present many of the different styles employed during his sixty or more years of printmaking. Many of the images involve women. Two early etchings of the three graces (Groupe de Trois Femmes & Les Trois Amies) are followed by the classic lithographic modeling of a woman's face (Visage). Next Picasso offers a cubistic handling of the figure (Figure). Three etchings for the suite named for the publisher Vollard show one of the artist's favorite themes, the artist's model (Femme nue devant une Statue, Modele et Grande Tete sculptee, & Modele et Sculpture surrealiste).
There are two strong portraits of Dora Maar (lover and muse) and Jacqueline Rocque (the artist's second wife). In addition there is a bullfight image (Le Picador), and two erotic images (Venus foraine) and one from the 347 series.
Together the two Picasso print exhibitions at Davidson and Kucera offer a special opportunity to see the full range of the artist's important work in these original mediums.
PLEASE NOTE: This is an Archived Exhibition page. Many of the works will no longer be available. For pricing and availability, please call 206 624-6700 or email our department.
