Seattle artist Jonelle Johnson creates monotypes and intaglio prints exploring the usual and unusual aspects of subjects she encounters in her daily life. Inspired by the sights from her waterfront residence, Johnson has focused recently on boats, specifically empty boats which serve as vessels. While her images verge on the scenic - skiffs lazily floating amidst an aqueous field - the serenity of such scenes is broken by compositional tactics. Rather, the works are contemplative in nature. The multifaceted appearance directly refers to the cubist concept of anobject being fully realized and understood through multiple vantage points.
