Katina Huston
Available Works
Bay Area artist Katina Huston has played many roles, from university professor to bike messenger. Bicycles remain a key inspiration for her elegant drawings: placing bikes on mylar, she projects light through them to form shadows which she then renders in twenty or more shades of ink. In this new group of drawings, Mechanical Repeat (her second solo show in Seattle), chance shadows serve as a graphic record of experience, while repeated wheels, chains and gears are layered to examine how people make meaning. Recurring images build up compelling force: in one, bikes build up with the chaotic force of a tidal wave; in another, the same elements move forward in orderly procession suggesting forward movement.
