Tallmadge Doyle

Available Works

Eighteen imaginary etched constellation figures make up Tallmadge Doyle’s most recent body of work. These symbolic figures are inspired by traditional celestial allegories in which humans can honor and recognize sacred animals, deities, and moral tales. They are not intended to be accurate but do carry on an age-old tradition of storytelling that started with the Babylonians and Sumerians, passed to the Egyptians and later the Greeks and Romans.

The beautiful rich, layered color prints of the artist's earlier work reference ancient scientific and alchemical equations and symbols.

Tallmadge Doyle received her MFA in printmaking from the University of Oregon, Eugene, OR. Many public collections hold her work including Loyola University, Chicago IL; City of Seattle Portable Works Collection, Seattle WA; The Cleveland Art Association, Cleveland OH; and the Gordon Gilkey Center for Graphics Arts, Portland OR.
