Stefano della Bella (Italian 1610-1664)

Available Works

Following in the footsteps of the master Jacques Callot, Stefano della Bella was an Italian contemporary of Callot who also enjoyed direct association with the Medici family. A prolific artist, della Bella was especially talented illustrating animals, landscapes, and military related subjects. The intimate and often minute etchings of these two accomplished artists offer honest glimpses into 17th century Italian life, landscape and sensibility, as well as the capabilities of the etching medium.
