Ying-Yueh Chuang

Available Works

Through her sculptural installations, Ying-Yueh Chuang creates environments inhabited by ceramic creatures. Some works are suspended from the ceiling while others are displayed on pedestals. Her meticulous sculptures are embellished with protruding tendrils, bright colors, and deep orifices. The objects are simultaneously whimsical, sensual and sinister, creating a hybrid of lush vegetation and sea anemones. Chuang is a collector of things -- fruits, vegetables, bones, sea animals - and she draws on their forms for emotional and aesthetic inspiration.

Chuang was born in Taiwan and currently lives in Eastern Canada. She received her BFA from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design, Vancouver, BC, in 1999, and an MFA in ceramics from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, in 2001.
