Lisa Buchanan

Lisa Buchanan's medium scale paintings respond to patterns she finds in both science and language. As an artist working in abstraction, Buchanan is inspired by a need to balance elements of chaos and equilibrium, "exploring a structure that is loosely based on language …" "The title for this show of recent work, The Rose of Jericho, speaks to the need for evolving, to the need of surviving and improvising when environments change. I like to think of my work as being adaptable, even if only adaptable to the whims of a practicing artist and as a citizen of this planet."

After nearly 20 years of solo exhibitions, Buchanan continues to be an important and vital presence in contemporary art. Her work, constantly evolving, remains relevant and trendsetting.
