Peter Brauninger

Available Works

Born and trained in Switzerland, Peter Brauninger has lived, worked and exhibited in several major cities between Europe and America, including Zurich, Paris, New York and Hamburg. His images address experiences of life in big cities, exposing the seedier sides - bars, alleys and subway tunnels - as the sources of activity and vitality, however askewed. Brauninger’s etchings possess the dark, seductive and lonely qualities of film noir and, as Andrew Stasik states, Brauninger reveals humanity in the gathering darkness. Influenced also by the ports of Hamburg and an early apprenticeship as a sailor, Brauninger’s images often refer to the shipping industry and the sea.
