JUAN ALFARO

Juan Alfaro is a Brooklyn-based sculptor whose installations often combine hand-crafted and found materials with video to examine how visual information can be recontextualized, leading an audience to false conclusions. The focal piece for Alfaro will be Revolutions, which consists of two parts: the first a wall-mounted video of a spinning globe, the second part a mechanical sculpture which is the surprising source for the image. Much like an earlier series replicating familiar photos and videos of the lunar landings using homemade objects, Revolutions raises questions about our notions of reality and, especially in our time, media manipulation.
